Introduction

Imagine having the power to hire your own personal home care dream team without the stress of paying upfront, filing mountains of paperwork, or waiting weeks for reimbursement. Sounds too good to be true? Not in Alberta! Thanks to the Client-Directed Home Care Invoicing Program launched in 2023 by Alberta Health Services and administered by Alberta Blue Cross, you can now choose who comes into your home, when they come, and what care they provide. Best of all? There’s no upfront cost! The billing goes directly through Alberta Blue Cross, saving you time, stress, and paperwork.

Who’s Eligible—and Why Choose CDHCI?

If you’re an Alberta senior living in a community setting with a valid Alberta Health Care number, you may be eligible for CDHCI.

Additional criteria include:

  • An AHS case manager has assessed your need for home care.
  • CDHCI is deemed an appropriate method to meet your care needs.
  • You and/or your caregiver are willing and able to take on the responsibilities of directing your care.

Choosing CDHCI puts you in the driver’s seat with a variety of benefits. While you won’t be managing care on your own, you’ll have a say in who delivers your services, what kind of services you receive, and how and when they’re provided. It’s care that fits your life, not the other way around.

What Services Are Included?

With CDHCI, the services provided are determined by your home and community care assessment, and can include personal care, homemaking, and respite care. Personal care tasks include assistance with personal hygiene, dressing, toileting, mobilization, transferring, exercise, nutrition, respiratory care, and medication assistance. Homemaking services include those that allow you to stay aging in your home such as cleaning, laundry, and garbage removal. Lastly, respite care allows your support person to have a break when their loved one is unable to be safely left alone. No matter the service, the goal of CDHCI is simple: to keep you safe, supported, and thriving in your home.

Why Choose Granddaughters Home Care as Your AHS Certified Home Care Provider?

Granddaughters Home Care is proud to be an AHS-approved provider under the CDHCI program – but what truly sets us apart? We are a family-run agency, built around the values of compassion, connection, and community. At GHC, we provide family-centered care, treating every client with the same warmth and respect we’d want for our own loved ones. From day one, we focus on building meaningful relationships, empowering independence, and delivering care that truly makes a difference.

How it Works with GHC

Once you’re approved for CDHCI through your AHS case manager, you’ll be allocated a specific number of care hours per month. These can be used for personal care, homemaking, or respite support.
